Bill on Dayak ‘out of order’ Speaker dismisses motion as Parliament has to amend relevant article first

KUCHING: An opposition lawmaker failed in his bid to introduce a Private Member’s Bill to amend the Sarawak Interpretation Ordinance to reclassify the state’s natives as Dayak.

Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Kota Sentosa) sought leave to amend the ordinance’s schedule so that Sarawak’s natives would be identified as Dayak, comprising 22 sub-ethnic groups, and Malays.
