KULAIJAYA: Johor Barisan Nasional is standing firm behind Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak amidst calls made by Tun Dr Mahathir for Najib to step down.
Menteri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin who is also state BN chairman said Johor openly supported Najib as he was elected by the people to govern the country through democratic process.
He said history has proven and shown that it was not the first time the former prime minister had openly criticised the current prime minister as he (Dr Mahathir) had also did the same to his successor Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
“Dr Mahathir is Dr Mahathir. Period,” Mohamed Khaled told reporters after the opening of the RM24mil Heraues Materials (M) Sdn Bhd, plant producing wire bonding at I-Park @ Indahpura here on Thursday.
He said even Dr Mahathir did not spare him and he was criticised when Johor proposed the Housing and Real Property Enactment Board 2014 last year.
“You (media people) were having a field day running negative stories on the Bill but despite the critics by him (Dr Mahathir) on me and Johor, I’m still here today as Mentri Besar,” added Mohamed Khaled.
He said Najib had already explained to the Cabinet and met the people to answer Dr Mahathir’s critics and majority of Malaysians still have faith in Najib to govern the country.
Mohamed Khaled declined to answer when asked whether Najib should take the comments made by Dr Mahathir with “a pinch of salt”.
Dr Mahathir had posted his entries in his blog in the past weeks making demands for Najib to step down as he said there were too many scandals happening during Najib’s time.
These include issues concerning 1Mlaaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Saribu.
