THE former Miss Malaysia title holders showed they were more than just pretty faces when they starred in a medley performance for charity.
The Miss Malaysia Musical & Variety Show was held at the Rooftop Grand Ballroom at The Place@ One City USJ 25/1 recently.
Themed “Because We Care”, the event saw 20 Miss Malaysia title holders from a variety of pageants, from 1990 to 2014, putting on a one-and-a-half-hour talent show involving singing, dancing and dramatic performances.
Miss Tourism International president and organising committee chairman Tan Sri Danny Ooi said the event was to raise RM100,000, which would be split equally among 10 orphanages and old folk’s homes in the Klang Valley.
“This is the first time the 20 title holders have come together for a noble cause.
“I am amazed at their willingness to put on hold their prior commitments and help to raise funds.
“I believe that this event will show how the girls are not only beautiful on the outside but also on the inside,” he said.
Since 1990, Ooi has crowned 93 women with the Miss Malaysia title.
The show included a fashion parade featuring collections from designers Alvin Tay, Carven Ong, Dominique Chan, Bill Keith and Hazree Wahid.
In addition, guest artistes Datuk Elaine Kang, Cheng Kam Cheong and Lee Pei Ling performed during the show.
Ooi, who is also the Malaysia Book of Records founder, gave out special awards to the guest performers.
Among the participants were Miss Malaysia Charm 1990 Kavita Sidhu, Miss Malaysia Queen of the Year 1993 Susan Manen, Miss Malaysia Tourism Queen of the Year 2004 Lavence Lim, Miss Malaysia Tourism 2006 Brenda Chew and Miss Malaysia Tourism Metropolitan 2014 Joey Ong.
Some of the beneficiaries of the event are House of Joy in Puchong, Kajang Caring Home, Pusat Penjagaan Saruse in Semenyih and Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat in Klang.
