Housewife wins second vacation after husband buys package to Maldives at MATTA Fair

Elated: Eng walked away with a 13-day/11-night ‘best of Greece and Aegean cruise’ for two worth RM28,600.

FOR 43-year-old housewife Eng Ai Meng, buying a dream trip to the Maldives resulted in winning a second holiday to picturesque Greece.

The lucky grand-prize winner of the Matta Fair March Buyers’ Contest 2015 walked away with a 13-day/11-night “Best of Greece and Aegean cruise” for two worth RM28,600 by Trafalgar and Holiday Tours.

“Initially, I went to Matta Fair with the intention of getting a tour package to Greece. Since I always chose our holiday destination, we decided to go with my husband’s choice this time and he chose the Maldives.

“Little did I know, I would actually get to go to Greece anyway. I am extremely overjoyed,” Eng said.

It was not Eng’s first win from the Matta Buyers’ contest.

“About three or four years ago, I won a pair of plane tickets to Jakarta,” she said.

This time around, she had purchased a vacation for two to the Maldives worth more than RM7,000 and was immediately eligible to participate in the contest, which required a minimum spending of RM300 at the fair.

Besides Eng, nine other winners were also awarded prizes, including return Business class tickets from Kuala Lumpur to London for two by Malaysia Airlines and a four-day-three-night Phuket-Krabi Cruise onboard Superstar Libra for two by Star Cruises.

There were a total of 2,526 contest participants and 10 winners were selected at random.

According to Matta Fair March 2015 organising chairman Jaya Kumar S. Sannadurai, the event drew upwards of 90,000 visitors over its three-day duration.

“This is a significant increase with about 8,000 more visitors as compared to the event in September last year,” he said, noting that the increase in visitors was a testament to the variety and quality of packages offered at the fair.

The fair had also recorded about RM140mil in sales, an increase from RM133mil in the September exhibition held last year.
