Organ donation drive draws youths keen to save lives

Gift of life: Students and the public donating blood at the hall of Chung Ling High School Penang.

THE blood donation and organ donor registration programme organised by the Sixth Form Society and Interact Club of Chung Ling High School Penang attracted 114 people keen to do their bit for society.

The students were seen enthusiastically registering to become organ donors.

Among them were good friends Diong Jia Qi, Ng Yee Luan and Ting Jiat Yian, all aged 19.

“Before signing up as organ donors, we did some research about it.

“We think this is a good decision as our organs can save someone else’s life when we have passed on,” Diong said when met at the school hall in Air Itam.

First-time blood donor Lee Chun Hui, 19, said the act gave him a good feeling.

“I was curious about the blood donation so I decided to try it out myself.”

Another blood donor Ang Zheng Yen, 19, said this was his second time.

“I would like to urge the younger generation to donate blood.

“It is a good deed and it will help people in need,” he added.

Sixth Form Society president Pang Hooi Chin said the charity drive was the society’s annual event.

“We aim to encourage more young people to get involve in this kind of charity programme.”
