ZOUK Kuala Lumpur raises its international profile even further by breaking into the Top 40 of this year’s DJ Mag annual Top 100 Clubs Global Poll. A leap of 14 places sees the 11-year-old superclub now ranked #38 in the world.
The results were announced last Friday by the UK dance magazine, a bible for global club and electronic dance music culture. This is the first time that Zouk KL has broken into the Top 40 since the multi-venue nightspot made its 2011 debut on the poll. Each year, DJ Mag puts together a list of the cream-of-the-crop nightspots around the world — voted online by users — reflecting what they truly enjoy, as well as the establishment’s popularity on a global scale.
Zouk KL was previously ranked #65 ; #66 ; and #52 . Zouk KL’s success and quick rise in popularity among global audiences has been boosted by its progressive showcase of electronic dance music presented by a scintillating roster of international and local DJs, intuitive programming, the embracing of digital technology to support its intricate eco-system of consumer amenities and services, as well as tourist-friendly policies.
THe club is now the third ranked of the eight Asian clubs that made the Top 100, with only Octagon in South Korea (#6) and sister club Zouk Singapore (#7) ahead. The other Asians clubs that made the Top 100 are Womb, Tokyo (#48); Fuse SG, Vietnam (#72); Valkyrie Club, the Phillipines (#75); Kitty Su, India (#91); and Myst, China (#98).
Significantly, Zouk KL is also ranked ahead of such legendary international clubs as Watergate (Berlin), Privilege (Ibiza), Egg (London), Guvernment (Toronto), Sankeys (Manchester) and Tresor (Berlin). The full list is available at http://djmag.com/top-100-clubs
Zouk KL’s co-founder and executive director Cher Ng said, “It is a great achievement by the Zouk KL team, underlining their passion and strong commitment in offering the best. We aim to be one of the Top 30 clubs in the world by 2017.”
Zouk KL, which celebrated its 11th anniversary last week, will relocate from its current location in Jalan Ampang to Kuala Lumpur’s new lifestyle precinct TREC along Jalan Tun Razak by the second quarter of 2015.
But before that happens, there’s still more to come at its current premises and on April 10, we move from #38 to the No. 1 club on the DJ Mag list this year.
Brazil’s Green Valley presents André Pulse at Aristo @ Zouk on April 10. Hailed as one of the pioneers of electronic music in Brazil, André Pulse is one of the top DJs behind the growth of this scene in the mid-west of the country.
Goiânia (GO) is where he began his career in music in the 1980s, at the time, playing underground and indie rock. A compulsive collector of records, he has been developing his taste, in?uences and musical background over the years.
His research led him to London in the early 1990s where he had his ?rst contact with the cream of electronic music.
With nearly two decades of dedication to electronic music, Andre has established himself as one of the major drivers of this scene in Brazil. He lent his name to the legendary Pulse Club in Goiânia and started an endless tour to all the main clubs in the country, leaving his mark as a “main show” with a unique ability to get crowds with his vibrant sets.
Besides his solid and hectic national career, André Pulse appears frequently in various countries such as the US, China, Spain and UAE. He is currently resident of Green Valley, Camboriu, and also Pacha, Goiania. Aristo support will come from Zouk KL co-founding resident DJ Shazz, who himself made an appearance at Green Valley in recent months, and DJ Xu.
