PERSATUAN Tongkat Putih Pulau Pinang is in need of funds for its upcoming project known as ‘Safety vests for the blind’.

Its president Swarn Singh said they still needed RM3,600 for the 80 vests required for the project.

“Each vest costs RM45. We also need more funds to be able to continue to operate,” he said during their Chinese New Year lunch and food bank project for March and April.

About 50 members attended the gathering on Sunday. Besides new white canes, members were also given hygiene products, pampers and ang pow.

Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon and Penang Hindu Association deputy president P. Murugiah were present to distribute 20 bags of rice to the needy.

Murugiah, who also presented a cheque for RM2,000 to the association, urged the public to come forward and help.

Donors may walk in to the office at 14, Jalan Dharma, George Town.

Alternatively, they can bank in the donations via Bank Simpanan Nasional (account: 07100-41-00013014-6) under Persatuan Tongkat Putih Pulau Pinang.
