JOHOR BARU: Police detained two teenage boys after a video of them allegedly bullying a senior secondary student went viral online.
Johor police had posted about the arrest of the two suspects, age 13 and 14 years respectively on their Facebook page.
In the 2-minute 59-seconds video, recorded by one of the suspects, showed the 17-year-old victim being slapped several times by the other suspect.
The suspect then uploaded the video on his Facebook page that went viral through the social networking site.
Nusajaya OCPD Supt Noor Hashim Mohamed, who confirmed the arrests, said the victim had lodged a report about the incident on March 17.
He added that the incident happened under the void deck of an apartment located at Taman Sri Orkid near Skudai on March 16.
“Based on initial investigations that we received, the two boys have a grudge against the victim,” he said adding that the two boys were detained near the area here on March 18.
Supt Noor Hashim however, declined to elaborate further on the matter, as investigations were ongoing under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile in an unrelated matter, a body of a tugboat crew member that went missing for more than 24 hours near Pasir Gudang Port has been recovered.
The victim, identified as Steven Muya Ukan, aged 19, went missing on March 16 at around 11.30pm at the jetty.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Abdul Samad Salleh said the victim was in the midst of tying a rope when he fell from the boat and into the sea.
“Following the incident, a search and rescue operation involving the police, Fire and Rescue Department together with the Pasir Gudang Port authority was launched to find the victim.
“The body was found on March 18 at around 7am not far from the jetty where he went missing,” he said.
Supt Abdul Samad said the body had been sent to Sultan Ismail Hospital for a post-mortem and the case had been classified as sudden death.
