Stronger voices for native rights

Vast tracts of land have been cleared for the Shin Yang Forest Plantation scheme in the Ulu Belaga region prompting critics to doubt the viability of the proposed 900MW Murum Dam as the integrity of the catchment is destroyed.

MIRI: Jaringan Orang Asal SeMalaysia (JOAS) has called on all state governments to review policies on logging and commercial developments in all native-owned forests.

In conjunction with the International Day of Forests, which fell on March 21, JOAS has urged the authorities to look into the increasing woes relating to deforestation and land-clearing throughout the country.
