Fanfare for Baby God

Merry evening: The underprivileged children posing with organisers at the Chinese New Year party at Sian Chye Tong temple in Air Itam.

THE Sian Chye Tong temple in Air Itam, Penang, will hold a birthday celebration today and tomorrow for the Baby God deity.

Temple head Eddy Khoo Gim Siew said the celebration was set to attract devotees from Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and even Canada.

A vegetarian lunch will be served today at 1pm followed by devotees paying homage to the deity and a tea ceremony at 2.30pm.

“Monks and nuns will also be invited to conduct prayers for world peace and harmony,” he said in a press release on Tuesday, adding that the temple’s 85th anniversary celebration next year was set to be a grand affair.

The temple also treated some underprivileged children from the Children’s Protection Society and Salvation Army to an evening of cheer during the Chinese New Year celebration recently.

The evening started with a chanting and blessing ceremony by Sangha members followed by a sumptuous dinner.

The children enjoyed a lion dance and a drum performance. They were also presented with goodies, red packets and sweets by the God of Prosperity.
