THE International Medical University (IMU) is Malaysia’s first and most established, private medical and healthcare university, offering conventional and complementary medicine all under one roof.
With over 23 years of dedicated focus in healthcare education, it offers programmes at pre-university, undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development levels.
It has grown from a medical college with five partner universities in 1992, to an internationally-recognised name with over 30 partner institutions from the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and China.
While its main campus is located in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, IMU has also established clinical schools in Seremban and Kuala Pilah in Negri Sembilan, as well as Batu Pahat and Kluang in Johor.
School leavers may start off with the Foundation in Science, which allows them to proceed to degree studies. At undergraduate level, one can pursue programmes in various core and complementary healthcare disciplines.
These include Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Nursing, Dietetics with Nutrition, Nutrition, Biomedical Science, Medical Biotechnology, Psychology, Chiropractic, Chinese Medicine and Nursing Science.
Postgraduate study options include Public Health (MSc), Analytical and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (MSc), Molecular Medicine (MSc), as well as Medical and Health Sciences (by research) (MSc and PhD), among others.
IMU’s Learning Model is grounded in core values that foster students’ development and groom knowledgeable and competent healthcare professionals who are critical thinkers, being reflective and yet proactive.
Through various community projects, it also aims to create healthcare graduates who are committed to lifelong learning and imbued with a sense of good citizenship, leadership and ethical behaviour.
With the Malaysian healthcare industry experiencing steady growth and rapidly expanding to meet the needs of society, those interested to work in this industry have various career options open to them in both the government and private sectors.
IMU also had a major breakthrough in 2010 with the start of its Healthcare Centres, which allow staff and students to receive and treat patients.
The institution is owned by IMU Health Sdn Bhd, a key subsidiary of IHH Healthcare Bhd which is an international provider of premium healthcare services, and also the world’s second largest listed healthcare operator by market capitalisation.
