JOHOR BARU: A senior citizen who tried to bribe his way out of police action after he was suspected of selling pornographic movies at an abandoned mall here was instead slapped with a day’s jail and RM10,000 fine.
DVD seller Goh Teng Soo, 64, bribed a policeman from the Johor Baru Central branch at around 8.45pm on Jan 27 after the officer approached him for selling pornographic VCDs and DVDs at the abandoned Pacific Mall here.
As an inducement for the officer not to take action against him, Goh handed RM350 to him to settle the case.
Goh was arrested two days later as he committed a crime under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for his act.
He was charged before Sessions judge Mohammad Haldar Abdul Aziz on March 5 and pleaded guilty to the case.
The senior citizen asked for a lighter sentence saying that he has high blood pressure and leg pains.
Mohamad Haldar sentenced him to a day’s jail and a fine of RM10,000 in default six months’ imprisonment.
Goh was not represented while MACC prosecuting officer Abdul Ghafar Ab Latif prosecuted the case. Goh paid the fine.
