JOHOR BARU: All Barisan Nasional component parties in the state have been told to identify their “niche areas” to serve the community.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that such activities would allow for the people to relate to the party and help win their support for Barisan in future.

“Gerakan has been organising the run to combat against corruption at the national level. Maybe they should come up with similar strategies in Johor,” he said during a Johor Gerakan Chinese New Year gathering in Bukit Batu here recently.

Khaled added that component parties should play a bigger role in getting the support of the Chinese community towards Barisan.

“We must come up with events which will get the local community involved. We cannot have just gatherings or talks without having contact with the people,” he added.

Khaled explained that the state government would definitely supply and fund such events which would be beneficial to the people.

He added that the Barisan component parties should also strive to unite all the races in the state.

Khaled expressed hoped that in the next general election, the Bukit

Batu state seat, which fell to the opposition, would return to Barisan. He commended Gerakan for opening a service centres in the area to serve the community despite losing in GE13.

“Everyone should start working together as a team as there is still a lot more to be done before GE14,” he said adding that all parties should have proper strategies and planning.

Khaled added that efforts should also be put into making sure all these plans were fulfilled and done.

Meanwhile, Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong in his speech said that the party would announce all its candidates for GE14 this month to enable the locals to know their candidates and for them to start working from now onwards.

“For example the Bukit Batu state seat here has been our seat for 20 years and now we have lost it in the last GE13. We must do our best to win it back. Everyone in the party should start working harder,” he said, adding that having a proper strategy was important to win support in GE14.

Mah said that GE13 was over but there was still a lot of politicking happening.

“Now is time to focus on solving the people’s problems and serving the community,” he said, adding that it was not healthy for the country if there were too much politicking taking place.
