Spicy culinary fights to savour


CULINARY buffs can expect a tasty battle for honours at the Penang Chefs Challenge (PCC) 2015 and Big Bite Food Expo to be held at the Spice Arena from May 29 to May 31.

PCC is a world-class chefs’ cooking competition being held for the sixth time.

The three-day event, inspired by the famous ‘Iron Chef’ challenge, is a live cooking competition with four chefs per team.

The teams will be provided with all the basic ingredients and one mystery ingredient to be revealed right before the start of their 90-minute bout.

The chefs have to prepare a four-course meal, of which at least two must incorporate the mystery ingredient.

“This event is touted as the toughest and most challenging competition ever created and Penang Chefs Association dares cooking buffs out there to take up the challenge,” said organising chairman Chef Peter Chan.

The biennial competition is expected to attract 32 professionals and 32 junior teams from over 20 countries.

Winners will take home RM20,000 in cash and kind with prizes sponsored by various organisations.

Organising chairman Peter Chan said the Big Bite Food Expo would enable exhibitors to promote their products.

“It will show off a variety of food products and kitchenware.

“There will be processed food, frozen food, instant food, organic and health food, canned food, beverages, seafood, desserts and seasonings.”

He said activities, with prizes to be won, would also be held for visitors.
