SIBU: A motorist here wants to know who has the jurisdiction over the parking bays next to the heritage centre – the taxi association or Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and whether it is an offence to park there on a Saturday when it is a free parking day.
A phamacist, Kong Ching Khing told Sarawak Metro that he was issued with a summon by the police on Jan 31 which was a Saturday for parking on one of the two parking spaces.
“The sign there says “SMC Vehicle Only” but on the parking spaces it indicates SMC and Taxi. This is a great confusion,” he blasted.
He said he had parked his car there at 9.30am that day believing that members of the public could also use parking as Saturday is a non working day for SMC.
The police however, thought differently and issued the summon to him for parking at a taxi bay.
“I have tried to clarify the matter with the police but they insisted that I have committed an offence and thus have to pay for the summon. They have also passed to me a form asking me to fill in my particulars. I have not done so as doing it means I admit to my guilt,” he said.
He said his father had also advised him to settle for the summon but he is not about to do it as he is still waiting for the police to clarify on the matter.
“I am not against the police as I want only the police and the council to clarify this confusion as we do not know whether they are parking bays for taxis.
“This might also happen to other motorists if the matter is not solved,” he said.
