CNY gathering at centre a gem of an idea

In good company: Head of Little GEMS Learning Centre, Alise Cook addressing the crowd during the school’s CNY open house celebration in Bandar Tasek Mutiara in Simpang Ampat.

PARENTS, teachers and children attended a Chinese New Year open house at Little GEMS Learning Centre in Bandar Tasek Mutiara, Simpang Ampat near Nibong Tebal, Penang.

In conjunction with the celebration, parents and their children were also introduced to the centre's new principal Glen Mundy, who will also be heading the soon-to-open GEMS International School (GIP) of Pearl City, Penang.

Glen had earlier joined GEMS Education in 2010 as principal of the International School Tripoli in Libya, and has over 30 years of experience as an international educator across Europe, Africa and Asia.

Dance and song performances, and a storytelling session were held at the centre's main hall to entertain the parents and 35 students, aged between three and seven, during the celebration on Friday.

There was also a lion dance performance to liven up the ambience followed by the lighting of firecrackers.

At the end of the celebration, the children received an ang pow each while their parents gathered around for evening tea.

Also present at the function was GEMS International School of Pearl City board of governors chairman Datuk Leela Mohd Ali.

GIP which is located just across the Little GEMS Learning Centre, is scheduled to be opened in September.
