Keeping to tradition: Artisans dressed as the God of Prosperity and other Chinese deities meeting devotees during the celebration.

THE Thnee Kong Seh or Jade Emperor’s birthday, also known as the Hokkien New Year was celebrated on a grand scale by the Hokkien community in Penang.

The celebration falls on the ninth day of the first lunar month and devotees would usually start the celebration on the eve.
