PETRONAS StreetSmart-Lessons for Life, an interactive travelling exhibition that promotes the importance of road safety, is back in Kuala Lumpur until May 31.

The exhibition, which is also a component of the larger Petronas Road Safety Movement that carries the tagline “Safety Gets You There”, features interactive programmes and activities that provides information on road safety.

It aims to promote road safety awareness and inculcate responsible road safety habits among Malaysians.

La Salle PJ pupil Amir Mukhlis, 12, who was visiting the exhibition with his classmates as part of an excursion, found the exhibition informative and interesting.

“I was shocked to know the impact on the skull if one does not wear a helmet,” he said, adding that he enjoyed the motorbike simulation.

Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Dr Tam Weng Wah said the exhibition was an unconventional approach to increase road safety awareness.

“This is reverse psychology where instead of parents educating their children, it is the children who, after visiting the exhibition, will tell their parents the importance of road safety,” he said during a press conference after a working visit to the exhibition.

Petrosains Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Tengku Nasariah Tengku Syed Ibrahim said it is not just a typical exhibition on road safety as it explained the scientific concepts behind road safety so that visitors become aware and understand the reality of the safety implications when on the road.

The exhibition was first set up in 2001. Over the past 14 years, it has reached more than 1.4mil Malaysians in almost every state in Malaysia.

Petronas StreetSmart facilitators also visit surrounding schools and communities, including those in remote locations to run workshops and activities.

The exhibition is located in Petrosains, The Discovery Centre, Suria KLCC till May 31. It is open to the public from 9am to 6pm, entrance is free.
