ARTIST Yong Cheng Wah has returned with a solo exhibition in Penang after 10 years of absence from the art scene.
Twenty of his artworks in oil and watercolour are currently on display at the Dreamz Gallerie art gallery in Macalister Lane until Monday.
Yong, 72, was born in Penang and has held exhibitions all over the world.
He retired from painting after suffering a stroke about 10 years ago and now lives in Tanjong Tokong.
He said he was still as excited as ever about his art despite being a veteran in the industry.
“It was always my wish to have my best collection presented for the eyes of art lovers. “Over the years, I have explored a variety of styles,” he said on Wednesday during a Chinese New Year open house at Dreamz Gallerie’s compound.
The event was hosted by WIN World Group which contributed two of its heritage town houses to house the gallery.
Yong, the son of acclaimed artist Yong Mun Sen, is a significant contributor to Malaysia’s visual arts scene.
He was featured thrice on the Who’s Who in Art list and had his works collected bythe National Art Gallery of Malaysia, Bank Negara, the French national bank, Paul Getty and Malaysia’s first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Some of his artworks are being put up for sale to interested collectors.
Among those present at the open house were WIN World Group chief executive officer Angelina Cheong, group business director Bill H. Lee, employees, clients and business associates.
The guests were treated to a Nyonya buffet and an exciting lion dance performance.
WIN World Group comprises four entities — Intact Communications Sdn Bhd, Intact Advertising Sdn Bhd, WIN Creative Marketing Sdn Bhd and WIN Interactive Sdn Bhd.
The gallery is open by appointment over weekends and 10am to 5pm during weekdays.
