PENANG police are ready to serve once the nomina-tion and polling dates are fixed for the Permatang Pauh by-election.
Penang police chief Senior Deputy Comm (SDCP) Datuk Wira Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the police were waiting for the announcement from the Election Commission.
“We have about 6,200 policemen here and they are ready to serve.
“We will call for reinforcement through Bukit Aman should the need arises,” he added.
He said this after the promotion ceremony of 18 policemen from Sjn to Sjn Mej and two police officers from the rank of Asst Supt (ASP) to Deputy Supt (DSP) at the state police headquarters yesterday.
SDCP Abdul Rahim hoped the promotion would spur the policemen to continue providing a good service to the public.
Among the 18, Sjn Mej D. Mohan, 52, said he was grateful to the police force for the promotion.
“It shows that my hard work is recognised and has not gone unnoticed.
“I will continue to serve the police force diligently,” said the mechanic at the police Logistics Department.
He has been with the force for 29 years.
In a simple ceremony, SDCP Abdul Rahim pinned the pips and badges on the policemen’s uniforms as the recipients’ spouses and family members watched with pride.
