News of desolate families and children affected by the floods has left television personality Ras Adiba Radzi profoundly sad.
In response, she is organising the “Ras Adiba Radzi – A nite of Poetry & Jazz” fundraising mini concert along with friends.
She hopes the event can raise enough money to equip children, especially in inaccessible areas, with new clothes.
“The idea of holding this concert came about while I was anchoring the news.
“The visual was haunting; it was of a family who was lost and in despair, stranded on an empty land where their home once stood.
“They had two toddlers, teary-eyed, hungry and cold,” she said, adding that this was only one of many heart-wrenching stories known.
While many relief efforts have been carried out, Ras Adiba said there were still many more in remote areas that were unaccounted for.
“That is why I have decided to round up my friends to reach out to the children. It is not much, but I hope it will cheer them up,” she stated.
The night will see a fusion of poetry and jazz music from the hands of noted arranger and musical director Rafi Suhu, Malaysian saxophonist Jimmy, world jazz drummer Zahid Ahmad and Singapore’s pioneer jazz pianist Muhamad Akib, while Ras Adiba will treat the crowd with songs and poetry.
“Ras Adiba Radzi – A nite of Poetry & Jazz” will be held this Saturday at 8.30pm at the Perdana Siswa Auditorium, University of Malaya.
Each entry ticket, priced at RM80, will go to sponsoring four children with T-shirts, pants or skirts, undergarments and footwear.
