Here to entertain: The two-piece Heart & Soul band.

SIBU: Most who frequent music lounges prefer listening to oldies such as those played by Heart & Soul, a two-piece band from the Philippines.

Band leader, Eddie Villa said that at every places his band performs, the audience would usually request them to sing songs of yesteryears including those from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Together with Maria Chona the band was formed three years ago. Both have been in the music industry for umpteen years with different groups before they finally decided to come together as a duet.

Eddie was formerly from Angeles City while Maria was from Cebu.

“It’s easy to know the age of our audience at the first glance especially when they ask us to sing oldies.

“If they nod their head or sing along us, then they are enjoying our music. But if they are sitting still, then we know we have to change song,” he said.

Eddie said people prefer old songs as they could unwind themselves with their repertoire includes pop song, slow rock, sentimental, country music and jazz.

“We need to sing the right songs so that we can connect to our audience. That is the purpose of music which is to entertain.

“This is also why we named our group Heart & Soul,” he added.

The group is versatile to sing in several languages which include Korea, Bahasa Malaysia, English, Chinese, Latin and Japanese.

At RH Hotel, they are performing nightly from 5pm to 1am on weekdays (except Monday) and up to 2am on weekends and eve of public holidays.
