All merry and bright for Chinese New Year

PERKAMPUNGAN Jawi in Seberang Prai has been lit up with hundreds of bright red lanterns to usher in the Year of the Goat. Jawi assemblyman Soon Lip Chee said the village had been transformed into a fairyland of lights. “The lanterns were sponsoredby my service centre, PLB Group of Companies and well-wishers.

“We have about 2,000 people from 400 houses residing here in the village,” he told reporters after a ceremony on Tuesday.

Also present to witness the lighting up of the lanterns were PLB Group of Companies managing director Datuk Dr Rickson Ong along with Seberang Prai municipal councillors Hng Mooi Lye and Loh Joo Huat.

Ong thanked Soon for providing the opportunity for his company to participate in a meaningful activity.

“The lanterns have created a festive atmosphere here,” Ong added.

Meanwhile, Soon said he would be holding a Chinese New Year open house on Feb 27 at 7.30pm.

He said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng would be the guest of honour.
