Lunar new year staple: Toss up some Salmon Yee Sang for prosperity and abundance.

G HOTEL Gurney’s splendid Chinese New Year buffets set the stage for families to reunite, rejoice and usher in the Year of the Goat with abundance and prosperity.

Served at its stylish G Cafe, the feasts feature traditional ‘good luck’ treats, international delights and live barbeque, and make excellent alternatives to dining at home this festive season.

Gather everyone and head to the hotel in Gurney Drive, Penang, for the customary Goat Year Reunion Buffet on the eve (Feb 18) of the celebration.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year (Feb 19), enjoy an Acrobatic Lion Dance performance at noon before adjourning for the Gong Xi Fa Cai Brunch Buffet. In the evening, there is a Prosperity Dinner Buffet.

The indulgence continues on the second day (Feb 20) with the Fortune Brunch Buffet and Longevity Dinner Buffet. With each promotion offering over 100 items on a changing menu, a mouth-watering experience is in store.

Salmon Yee Sang, a festive must-have, is the highlight of the buffets.

Raise your chopsticks and toss the mixture as high as you can, for better fortune and luck in the coming year.

Delight in comforting bowls of Fish Maw Soup or Braised Sea Kingdom Chowder, or choose from the vast selections of sashimi, sushi, dim sum, salads, and deep fried tapas.

Succulent Roasted Peking Duck and Roasted Chicken are stars among the mains. They are equally great on their own, or when rolled with egg skin and a dash of Hoisin sauce.

The Baked Whole Salmon with Chili Mayo, a fusion dish that combines flavours from the east and west, is bound to be crowd favou-rite.

Other chef’s recommendations include the Wok Fried Prawns with Salted Egg Yolk Sauce, Chilli Crabs, and Steamed Cod Fish with Supreme Soya Sauce.

At the Live BBQ counter, various meats and seafood are grilled to perfection and paired with your desired sauces.

Indulgent desserts like Pandan Chiffon Cake, Chinese Pancake, Chinese New Year Cookies, Green Tea Cake, Peanut Butter Cake, and sweetness to your festivities.

Both brunch buffets are served between noon and 3pm, and priced at RM88++, inclusive of an Oriental Concoction.

Meanwhile, the dinner buffets are served from 6.30pm to 10.30pm and go at RM138++, except for the reunion which is priced at RM148++. All include a glass of sparkling wine.

Children below 12 eat for free when dining with parents (maximum of two kids). Diners may also add on RM35++ for free flow of house beer or wine.

Couples who have yet to make plans for tomorrow, may also head to G Cafe for the Valentine Seafood BBQ dinner at RM138++ per pax.

Otherwise, celebrate Valentine Under the Tree at sister outlet Tree Bar, or have a Sparkling Valentines Party at G Spot.

Over at the soon-to-be-opened G Hotel Kelawai, the Spoon restaurant offers an Auspicious Reunion Buffet Dinner on Feb 18, as well as Kong Hei Fatt Choy Buffet Lunch and Lunar New Year Buffet Dinner on Feb 19.
