SEVEN people suffering from various ailments have received RM500 each from the Penang MCA Medical Aid Fund.

Penang MCA adviser Datuk Dr Loh Hock Hun, who is the fund’s chairman, handed out chequesfor the amount to the recipients in a simple ceremony at the state MCA headquarters in Transfer Road.

Among the recipients was nose cancer patient Wong Lai Sim, 50, who said she would use the money to buy her medication.

Wong, a homemaker, said she had spent a lot of money to treat the cancer since she was diagnosed with the disease in 2012.

She said she had undergone several operations as well as che-motherapy and radiotherapy sessions.

Contractor Ho Kok Peng, 55, who received the money of behalf of his 30-year-old son, said he was grateful for the aid from MCA.

He said his son suffered a heart attack five years ago.

He added that his son was still under medication and had to go for frequent check-ups.

Dr Loh said money from the fund was given out to needy patients who required consistent medical attention irrespective of their race or religion.

“We started giving out this aid in 1992,” he said yesterday.

He said those who wished to apply for the aid could do so at the Penang MCA headquarters (04-2267827).

“They must bring letters from their doctors to facilitate the application,” Dr Loh said.

He added that money for the fund was contributed by well-wishers.

He said those who wished to contribute to the fund could do so at the headquarters.
