Potted plants greet visitors entering Nibong Tebal

MOTORISTS coming to Nibong Tebal from the Jawi toll plaza will be greeted by a row of potted plants placed along Jalan Besar.

A total of 100 plants line the 1.5km-long road divider accompanied by 30 streamers hanging on the lamp posts.

The plants and streamers were sponsored by Guppy Plastic Industries (Penang) Sdn Bhd under its corporate social responsibility initiative to beautify the township.

Its senior manager (management) T.H. Tan said the project cost about RM15,000.

“The pots are made from recycled materials.

“We hope to instil the ‘go green’ spirit among the society.”

Tan added that since 2010, the company had sponsored about 5,000 small pots for shop owners and schools in the area.

Jawi assemblyman Soon Lip Chee said the Seberang Prai Municipal Council would be responsible for the maintenance of the plants.

“For a start, we are beautifying the township and later the residential areas,” said Soon.

Councillor Jason Hng Mooi Lye said that in south Seberang Prai, about 200 pots were placed along the road but they were either empty or the plants were in poor condition.

“We will bring in new plants to replace the dying ones.

“Companies or individuals who are interested to assist us are welcome,” he said.
