A 1970s-themed movie screening was held at MBO Cinema, Citta Mall recently to celebrate the second anniversary of Tropicana Golden Years’ Privilege Club (TGYPC) — a senior citizen club by Tropicana Medical Centre (TMC).

The event was part of the club’s member-appreciation initiative as most of its members are also patients of TMC.

Attended by more than 100 members and their families, the event was filled with numerous retro activities such as Knock ‘em down, Ring-a-bottle and Rings toss, cotton candy stall and a photo booth contest.

Attractive prizes were given out to the winners of the carnival games and The Best-Posed Retro ‘70s photo contest.

“The club was established to provide seniors like us with exclusive benefits such as special discounts for hospital services.

“Regular health talks are also conducted for club members in order for us to be more health conscious during our golden years,” said Tropicana Medical Centre’s Compliance administrator Kua Guat Eng.

A health talk titled “Healthy Heart for the New Year” was presented by TMC’s consultant cardiologist and physician Dr Lau Gin Choy at the cinema, just before the movie screening, to share ways to keep their heart healthy.

“It has been years since we last stepped into a cinema.

“The activities organised today were great and we really enjoyed ourselves!” said Datuk Wan Hussein Wan Endut, 76, and his wife Datin Khadijah Abdul Halim, the grand prize winner who walked away with RM1,000 travel cash voucher.

Tropicana Golden Years’ Privilege Club was first established on Jan 11, 2013 and has more than 850 members to-date.

Unlike other loyalty cards or programmes, the club aims to instil health awareness among senior citizens, in order for them to stay healthy and active throughout their golden years.
