Hotel staff help flood victims


To be distributed: InterContinental Kuala Lumpur working with Land Rover Owners Club of Malaysia to send essential packs to the flood victims.

INTERCONTINENTAL Kuala Lumpur provided aid to those affected by the floods in the east coast.

Backed by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) Shelter in a Storm, a fund was activated to support colleagues as well as victims affected by the floods.

A total of US$10,000 (RM35,577) was allocated and channelled to Mercy Malaysia to provide hygiene kits, food items, deploy medical support and support local emergency response services in affected areas.

A total of 17 IHG staff received essential goods and monetary support;

They comprised 11 from InterContinental Kuala Lumpur, four from Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie and two from Holiday Inn Resort Penang.

A week-long charity drive initiated by the hotel’s Human Resources Department saw chefs contributing their skills by cooking favourites such as nasi lemak, fried noodles, pancakes, cupcakes and even bubur kacang hijau which was sold during breakfast and lunch at the staff cafeteria.

Essential goods were collected while monetary donations were used to purchase medical supplies and food items such as cookies, rice, oil and sugar.

These essential packs were sent to the Land Rover Owners Club of Malaysia to Temerloh, Pahang through the four-wheel drive convoy.

InterContinental Kuala Lumpur general manager Hafidh Al Busaidy said he was extremely proud of all the staff who came together to support the local community.

“The IHG Shelter Fund has enabled us to provide immediate assistance and make a difference,” he said.
