SPORTS Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd spread some joy to 650 underprivileged senior citizens in Penang in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year.
The recipients were each given a RM25 ang pow and a RM25 mini hamper containing biscuits, instant noodles, malt drink, cereal and Mandarin oranges.
Penang Sports Toto area sales executive Ahmad Zamri Osman said the Chinese New Year Ang Pow Donation Campaign 2015 was the company’s annual charity event.
“The event is being held nationwide until Feb 12 at 45 selected locations in Malaysia.
“About 16,000 senior citizens will benefit from this project and we will spend about RM900,000 overall,” he said after handing out the aid at the Lee Sih Chong Soo Association in Burmah Road.
Among the recipients was 86-year-old Chin Sooi Sim who said she could not wait to go back home and enjoy a bowl of koay teow soup using the ang pow money she was given.
The fourth-time recipient said she was grateful and happy that she got some money to spend for herself.
Another recipient was pensioner G. Paramathmah, 75.
The father-of-three said the cash and mini hamper would ease his burden slightly.
“I am not working and staying with my youngest son, so at least these items can be used for our household and I can use the cash,” he said.
Also present to give out the aid were Penang Chinese Town Hall chairman Datuk Khor Ten Haw and Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd senior manager (sales & marketing) Eddie Lim.
