Live surgical workshop attended by 80 participants

MALACCA: Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh held a two-days Master Class workshop on Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery.

The workshop attracted over 80 participants, covering both private and government hospitals from Negri Sembilan, Malacca and Johor.

Chairman of Pantai Holdings Berhad Datuk Khairil Anuar Abdullah said in his opening speech that this is the first live surgical workshop done within the Pantai & Gleneagles Group of Hospitals on a large scale.

The workshop covered the techniques in handling the scope equipment used in an operating theatre and the correct procedure of Inguinal Hernia Laparoscopic surgery carried out and demonstrated by Dr. Vimal K. Vasudeavan from Gleaneagles Hospital Penang and Laparoscopic Anterior Resection by Professor Chucheep Sahakitrungruang from King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thailand. Types of surgeries that were carried out are Lap Splenectomy, Lap Ventral Hernia and Lap Anterior Resection.

The workshop also benefited nurses who practiced on stapling and laparoscopic surgery techniques through the hands-on sessions.

One of the nurse participants, Juliah Ithnin from Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital, Batu Pahat said that this is a new experience for her and she was glad to have the opportunity to learn and practice it. She also revealed that this kind of workshop is needed in order to produce nurses who can work independently and able to overcome any complications ahead.

The overwhelming response from the participants inspired the CEO of Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh, Michael Wong who later announced that there will be series of Master Class in the future which will be cover different areas and disciplines.

Nurses and doctors from all over Malaysia are welcomed to participate in the next Master Class. Furthermore, Datuk KK Pang, Consultant Urology Surgeon from Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh also said that the hospital is taking this step to encourage the continuous medical education in order to provide the best treatment to the patients.
