DESA Amal Jireh, a home for underprivileged children and destitute senior citizens, recently held a food and fun fair at its premises in Jalan Broga, Semenyih.
More than 1,000 people from the local community and nearby towns attended the event, which was organised to raise funds to meet the children’s educational expenses and the home’s operational needs.
The home’s chairman, Reverend K.K. Sinnadurai, said there were 64 stalls selling all kinds of items and hawker fare.
The games stalls were a hit especially among the young.
Children from five other homes were given free coupons so they could participate in the activities.
Proceeds from the event totalled RM180,000, he said, adding that the home’s monthly expenses came to about RM100,000.
Desa Amal Jireh, which is 30 years old, also runs a ministry for the poor, home schooling for 35 children and a second-hand shop called the Charity Bazaar.
