The Hulu Tamu Hotsprings in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor recently underwent a RM100,000 facelift, including providing hydrotherapy facilities.
Under Phase 1 of the upgrade, three small pools, three shaded gazebos and a walking path were constructed and completed two weeks ago.
Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) landscaping director Mohd Fadhil Mohd Lani said the upgrade was aimed at making the famous Hulu Tamu Hotsprings a tourist attraction.
“Under Phase Two of the upgrade, a budget of RM150,000 has been requested.
“If we get approval from the state government, we could start work as soon as next month.
“Phase Two will have another huge pool, shops promoting hydrotherapy and floodlights to light up the place sufficiently.
“There are more than a dozen hotsprings in the area.
“We want to make this a public hydrotherapy area as it is already well known for the hotsprings.
“There are plans to place information boards about the place too,” he said.
Mohd Fadhil said the council was mulling the possibility of charging parking or entry fees to help with maintenance costs, but nothing had been decided yet.
“We would like more shops selling medicine, food and drinks as well as a spa to enhance the area as a tourist attraction,” he added.
Blacksmith, Lee Thang Soon, 58, from Batang Kali, who has been bathing in the hotsprings daily for two years, said the upgrade had really made the place more attractive
“I hope the council will maintain the cleanliness of this area,” he said.
