THE Mara Education Foundation (YPM) brought joy to 200 students from underprivileged families in Balik Pulau, Penang, when it presented them with aid.

The children, aged seven to 17, each received a voucher worth RM130 to buy school uniforms, shoes, bags and other necessities.

The needy students were from schools such as SK Telok Bahang, SMK Telok Bahang, SK Sungai Pinang, SK Sungai Rusa, SK Sungai Korok, SMK Seri Balik Pulau and SMK Pondok Upeh.

Teluk Bahang assemblyman Datuk Shah Headan Hussain Ayob Shah presented the vouchers to representatives from the schools in a ceremony on Monday at SK Sungai Korok in Jalan Baharu.

“The recipients were carefully selected by schoolteachers and we hope that this contribution can lighten their parents’ burden,” said Shah Headan.

“Most of them are children of fishermen,” he added.

Shah Headean urged the recipients to make their parents proud.

“Adopt the culture of working hard and I’m sure all of you can be successful,” he told them.

Also present during the ceremony was YPM corporate affairs manager Zainal Rashid Zakaria.
