Toddler among illegal foreign workers nabbed in Malacca

MALACCA: A toddler named Nurul Aysikah was among 32 illegal foreign workers detained under “Ops Pati Bersepadu” here.

Nurul was with her Myanmar national mother when the long arm of the law caught up with them.

The enforcement operation began at 11am and involved 40 personnel from the Immigration Department and National Registration Department at a construction site in Jalan Melaka Raya, Banda Hilir.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said during the operation, a total of 119 foreigners were checked for identity documents and work permits.

“A total of 32 foreigners were detained for not having valid travel documents and work permits,” he said.

Those arrested comprised nine men, two women and a child from Myanmar, eight men from Indonesia, six men from Bangladesh, four men from Pakistan, and one man each from India and Vietnam.

“The illegal immigrants were between two and 40 years old.

“All of the them will be handed over to the Malacca Immigration Department for further investigation,” he said.

They were detained under the Immigration Act 1959/ 1963.
