THE newly opened Popcity precinct of Penang Times Square offers shoppers trendy streetwear from e-commerce retailers, along with several entertainment options.
Located on Level Three of the mall’s Phase One, it currently has half a dozen pop-up stores run by online fashion bloggers, a game zone with archery combat and inline skating, as well as a cafe and hang-out lounge.
During its Opening Party on Saturday, there was also a flea market with an additional 35 stalls offering various merchandise from apparels to beauty products, handicraft and more.
Crowds who thronged the area were able to inspect and get a real feel of items normally offered in online stores and blogshops, with various discounts and promotions to sweeten the deal.
Adding to the merriment were several rounds of fashion shows that had models sashaying around in participating retailers’ trendy garments, an impromptu flash mob, and live make-up demonstration.
Music buskers and artistes from Worldwide Platinum Records provided melodic accompaniment to proceedings throughout the day.
Guest celebrities like Miss Malaysia Grand International 2013 Michelle Madeleine Moey, Miss Malaysia Global Queen 2010 Joelle Tan, and models Daniel Mehr and Natelynn Tiow, also created a buzz.
The mall’s marketing and promotions manager Trincy Low said the flea market would be held on the second Saturday of every month with the next one scheduled for March 14, between 11am and 6pm.
However, the pop-up stores operate daily from 11am to 9pm with more set to open in the coming weeks.
“We want to hype up the expansive Level Three area, and generate some excitement amongst shoppers.
“With online shopping a popular trend nowadays, this gives one a more tangible experience shopping for the most hip and trendy clothings,” she added.
