An university student doesnot have to worry about a job after his studies as he already has a job waiting for him upon completing his studies.

UiTM Perak student Zharif Mohd Nor won the top prize of RM20,000 after entering the Movie Animation Park Studios Perak (MAPS) logo design competition.

He was also offered a full time job with MAPS as its graphic designer.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“I’m honoured to be offered a career with such a prestigious organisation and to be working closely with DreamWorks Animation,” he said after the prize presentation ceremony held at RTC Gopeng last Saturday.

Earlier in his speech, MAPS chief executive officer Darren McLean had announced the company’s intention to hire Zharif.

As its graphic designer, Zahrif would be responsible for all creative graphic design work such as advertisements, billboards and website design for Asia’s first and upcoming animation theme park, said McLean.

On the winning design, McLean said: “We wanted the logo to generate strong brand recall and to embody MAPS’s mission of fulfilling dreams and lifetime memories.”

The second prize in the competition went to Lim Kok Wing University student Anggraeni Wignjopranoto while fellow UiTM student Zainulhafir Zain came in third.

The MAPS logo design competition was held last October and was open exclusively to Lim Kok Wing University and UiTM students.

Over 100 entries were received from each university and were vetted by a panel of judges comprising MAPS board members, DreamWorks Animation representatives Dawn Barber and Jonathan Linn, Marini Ramlan from Primeworks Studios and Mark Lankester of Tune Hotel.

MAPS is a RM450mil partnership project between Australian firm, Sanderson Group, and Perak Corporation Bhd.

It is targeted to be opened at the end of this year and will feature six different zones forming together an animation-based fantasy environment, which includes Animation Square, Fantasy Forest, Live Action, Space Zone, DreamWorks and the Lakeside Zone.

MAPS will feature the world’s first Dreamworks Adventure Zone, bringing to life famous DreamWorks Classic properties such as Mr Peabody & Sherman, Casper the Friendly Ghost along with others including The Croods and Megamind.

Additional zones will be inhabited by other animation characters created specifically for the park.
