Musicians band together to drum up aid

Revving up support: Owners of Tom, Dick and Harry’s Pub and Grub posing with artists and performers for the second wave of flood relief efforts at Oasis Damansara, PJ.

DAMANSARA-based pub Tom, Dick and Harry’s will be conducting a second wave of relief effort in response to the urgent situation affecting flood victims.

Managing director Ernest Ong said the establishment aims to supply basic items needed to help the victims rebuild their lives, to provide support and encouragement to these displaced victims and to provide hope.

For the company’s first relief effort conducted on Jan 3, the pub’s care team distributed RM100,000 worth of food and water to victims in Mentakab, Pahang.

Due to the positive response and success of the first project, Ong plans to double up their efforts for the event.

“We are hoping to utilise two 40-foot containers which will carry items worth RM200,000 this time.”

The items provided will be packed into boxes known as “Box of Hope” containing basic necessities such as kitchen utensils, cleaning products and personal hygiene items.

To gather funds for these items, the care team has convinced several Malaysian artistes and performers to contribute their talents for a series of shows at the pub.

Babuyramos vocalist and guitarist Sherman Tan, whose band is among the acts scheduled during the one-week fundraiser, said, “We hope that we can help raise some money for this good cause.”

Famous veteran singer Zainal Abidin said he would auction off two copies of his self-titled first solo album released in 1991, during his performance.

The shows at Tom, Dick and Harry’s in Oasis Damansara are as follows:

Jan 19 — 9 Lives and Elvira

Jan 20 — Back2Basixx and Ning Baizura

Jan 21 — Jumero, Fazz and Aseana Percussion Unit

Jan 22 — Fredo and Babuyramos

Jan 23 — M.I.R.A., Hydra, Nadeera and Zainal Abidin

Jan 24 — Aubrey Suwito and Friends featuring Jaclyn Victor

Once sufficient funds have been collected, the “Boxes of Hope” will be delivered to households in areas where there are insufficient or no relief efforts as yet.

Approximately 50 volunteers in 15 four-wheelers will deliver the goods on Jan 25. The pub is also looking for sponsors to provide items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and soap.
