MALACCA: The presence of 30 enthusiastic staff from Philea Resort and Spa Melaka brightened up a community project to give a fresh look to special school - Wings Melaka of Tengkera.

This is the first community-related initiative to kick start the year 2015 with a clean-up campaign at the education centre for the disabled.

Celebrating with the community and its people is a long-standing culture of Philea to help grow thriving communities where we live and work.

The objective of the hotel in spearheading this initiative is to give attention to the special children in the community and to provide them a comfortable learning environment.

The campaign was organised before the children returned from school breaks.

The staff gathered at 10.30am on Jan 8 and took about six hours to clean up a double storey heritage building.

“Apart from taking care of our guests, it has been Philea’s culture to constantly serve the community around us. I am delighted that our teams were active with their communities by spending their precious time by volunteering to help others for a good cause,” said Resort’s general manager Lim Beng Weh.

Lim said the aim of the project was for the betterment of the children with disabilities.

He noted that the effort also directly helped Wings Melaka save from outsourcing the cleaning aspect to contractor.

Manager of Wings Melaka Chan Saw Si said her team were very thankful to the resort for their benevolence.

“The resort staff displayed a great team spirit, love and compassion during their visit here,” she said.

Wings Melaka is a non-profit organization providing a range of programmes designed to help people, especially children, with special needs and their families.

Chan explained that the initial focus of Wings Melaka programmes were on younger children and gradually extended its programmes to also include teenagers and young adults with special needs.

Meanwhile, the resort has also launched the complimentary “Weekend Hop-On and Hop-Off” shuttle services operating on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, making it as another add-on service provided exclusively for its in-house guests and the shoppers.

Guests may board at fixed schedule from the resort which is 9.30am, 2pm, 5pm and 9.30pm to the shopping complex.

The shoppers from Mahkota Parade can also hop on to the shuttle bus for a free tour to Philea Resort and Spa.

The shuttle pick-up point is adjacent to the taxi station at Parkson Mahkota Parade which is scheduled to depart at 11.00am, 3.30pm and 6.30pm.
