The guide lists 20 ‘must-visit’ current and upcoming museums, with a map of their locations and brief descriptions, operating hours and entrance fees.

It was launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and Tourism Malaysia Penang, in partnership with the Penang Tourist Centre (PTC) Bhd, along with a Museum Adventure Pass valid for 17 of the 20 museums.

The pass, which will be on sale for RM10 from Feb 1, provides a 20% discount on entry fees for up to four persons per pass at any one time and a 10% discount on purchases of merchandise.

It has a one-year validity and is also transferable.

Tourism Malaysia Penang director Harun Pilus said the guide and pass were part of the Government’s initiative to highlight Penang as an exciting tourist destination and increase arrivals in conjunction with the Malaysia Year of Festivals 2015 and Visit Penang Year campaigns.

“Last year, arrivals through the Penang International Airport and the Penang Port were 1.17 million and 115,296 respectively.

“This signifies that Penang remains a top destination not only in Malaysia but also in South-East Asia,” he said.

State Tourism Development Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang said the guide would include more museums that come up in the future, and the pass was the first of its kind in the country.

“It is a good start and we will continue to discuss matters with the industry players.

“The aim is that one day, there will be a pass for other tourist attractions and services as well,” he said.

He launched the guide and the pass recently at a press conference which also saw the launch of the PTC website.

Also present were PTC president Datuk Syed Mohd Aidid Syed Murtaza and the ministry’s acting Penang director Mazlan Hashim.
