KUCHING: The life and leadership of Sarawak Governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud have been chronicled in a new biography written by media practitioner Siva Kumar G.
Titled “Taib - The Visionary”, the 750-page book provides a detailed account of Taib’s 33-year career as Chief Minister and 50 years overall as a politician.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who launched the book at the State Legislative Assembly building here on Thursday night, said it did justice to Taib’s character and leadership.
“This is a definitive book which gives a true reflection on the life of a great man. It captures the character and spirit of the man,” he said.
Adenan described his predecessor as an inspirational leader who had done much to transform Sarawak from a backward state into what it was today.
“To my generation, he is a beacon on a hill to aspire to and an example to follow. He has many detractors but none can deny that here is a man who tried to help his country, who tried to develop his country and drag us into the 21st century.
“He saw suffering and tried to heal it, he saw disharmony and tried to heal it too,” he said.
Meanwhile, Siva said it took him three years to write the book.
“It’s not a superficial collection of photos but the result of a lot of research on the ground and interviews with numerous people,” he said.
The book retails at RM99.90 in Sarawak and will be available in local bookstores from Jan 19.
