Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) aims to make OCBC KL Car Free Morning (KLCFM) a tourist activity, not only for cycling enthusiasts.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib is working to bring in more cultural shows such as bangra dances and brass bands in hopes of drawing in more tourists.
“We will also bring out our horse carriages for the KLCFM this weekend to draw more crowd,” he said at a press conference with OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad.
So far, he said, 45,000 people have participated in KLCFM.
KLCFM draws in many cycling enthusiasts
As the number of participants increase, Ahmad Phesal said the organiser and the implementation committee were in the middle of planning to elevate safety measures to prevent untoward circumstances.
The measures include different lanes for cyclists and roller skaters, more cones and barriers and better enforcement system.
“There will be a total of 150 bicycles provided by OCBC for cycling enthusiasts and 10 tandem bicycles to use during the bi-monthly KLCFM,” he said.
OCBC Bank chief executive officer Ong Eng Bin said they will organise additional activities as the event progresses.
The KLCFM is held from 7am every first and third Sunday of the month. Roads will be closed for people to cycle, handcycle, skateboard, rollerskate, rollerblade or walk.
It starts from Dataran DBKL near Dataran Merdeka and leads participants through about 7 km of major streets in KL’s Golden Triangle.
