Happy lot: The children eagerly showing the vouchers that they received to buy school essentials at Masjid Jamek Simpang Enam in Macalister Road.

The primary school pupils received a voucher worth RM140 each to buy school uniforms, shoes, socks and bags.

Mosque committee chairman Datuk Abdul Rafique Abdul Karim said it was the mosque’s annual event to help children from needy families to purchase some essential items for schooling before the new school term started.

“We gave out the vouchers to the students so they can visit the selected outlets that are near our mosque to choose appropriate uniform, shoes and bags for themselves.

“It is our annual affair and a small favour from us to help reduce the burden of the pupils’ parents,” he said after handing out the vouchers at the mosque on Saturday.

First-time recipient, Putri Zainab Ahmad Tarmizi, 11, said she was going to buy a pair of school uniform, shoes and a bag right after the event.

“I am so happy that I received this aid as my parents did not have enough money to buy these items for me yet,” she said.

Her friend Nur Syabila Mohd Hanafi, 11, was smiling ear to ear after receiving the aid.

Also present was State Secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus who advised the parents to provide good education to their children despite the hardship that they were going through.
