THE Save Vivekananda Ashramam Action Committee (SVAB) has received permission to hold Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi’s birth anniversary celebration tomorrow inside the building.
This ends months of discord between the SVAB and the Vivekananda trustees who have been at loggerheads over the planned redevelopment of the century-old building.
In a notice on the Save Vivekananda Ashramam Brickfields Facebook page, SVAB thanked the trustees for agreeing to their request.
The notice also said that a series of programmes will be held from 11.30am to 10pm on Sunday.
Prominent community leaders such as Mother Mangalam, Tan Sri Devaki Krishnan, Datuk A. Vaithilingam, and renowned performers like Datuk Ramli Ibrahim, Sutra Dancers, sitarist Samuel Dass and tabla player Prakash Kandasamy are expected to attend.
SVAB chairman G. Gunasegaran said the day-long event will feature dance performances, songs, musical recitals and cultural talks.
“Food and drinks will also be served,’’ he said,
Other events that are being held in conjunction with Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary include a seminar at the Kalamandapam Hall, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur from 9am to 1pm.
An exhibition on his life and teachings will also be held in the same venue from Jan 12 to 14 from 9.30am to 9.30pm.
There will also be chanting, meditation and bhajan sessions organised by Ramakrishna Mission at No 36, Jln 10/7, Section 10, Petaling Jaya on Jan 12 from 7pm.
