LIPIS: More than 300 families here affected by the recent floods received aid from the authorities to lessen their burden.

The families were residing in four villages in Sungai Koyan namely Tanjung Gahai, Sungai Bertang, Kuala Medang and Kampung Keledek.

MIC president and Cameron Highlands MP Datuk Seri G. Palanivel was on hand to give away some food aid comprising rice, instant noodles, biscuits, sardines, canned milk and other basic necessities.

Palanivel said it was his third visit to check on the condition of the affected villages and surroundings.

“We would be compiling information on the ground and submit a full report to the relevant authorities.

“I hope all parties can come forward to assist the Government in providing aid to those affected.

“This is the spirit of togetherness as a nation in line with the concept of 1Malaysia,” he said, adding that unforeseen difficulties would bring out the best in people and bring them closer together.

Palanivel said water jet machines, gas cylinders and stoves would also be sent to the villagers to assist them in cooking and cleaning up of their premises.

Also present were Natural Resources and Environment Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Zoal Azhar Yusof and director-generals of several agencies.
