Lots to do: Sivarraajh (in green shirt) distributing food supplies to the flood victims in Kuala Krai, Kelantan.

ALMOST 1,000 MIC Youth volunteers have been at the forefront of relief efforts in the flood-affected states of Pahang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor.

Rations from the MIC Youth Disaster Aid Centre (MyDAC) were distributed to flood victims in these areas.

The MIC volunteers teamed up with Kelab Putera 1Malaysia and The Royal Malaysian Air Force to conduct food and medical aid distribution as well as rescue missions using two helicopters.

“The situation was very dire when we went there last month as thousands of villagers were stranded on higher ground waiting to be rescued,” said MIC Youth chief C. Sivarraajh.

To-date, more than RM300,000 worth of essential supplies including bottled water, dried food, blankets, sanitary pads and medical aid have been distributed to the affected areas.

MIC Youth also assisted in the delivery of medical supplies to hospitals within the affected area with the support of Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

“More volunteers are needed for relief as well as clean-up efforts,” urged Sivarraajh.
