Repok Basketball Club in Sarikei, Sarawak, will get a covered basketball court thanks to a RM100,000 allocation under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP).

Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, who is both Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman, allocated the funds for the project.

Sarawak Communication Unit (Ukas) reported that Huang, who is also Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, had visited the site to review the project’s progress.

He said sports development remained one of the priorities in efforts to empower the local community.

“I believe with better facilities, more youth will be actively involved in sports, thus promoting a healthy lifestyle and increasing their competitiveness in this field,” he added.

In 2024, RM500,000 was allocated under RTP to upgrade existing facilities at the club, including the construction of spectator stands, toilets and store rooms as well as the resurfacing of concrete floors.

With the additional allocation, the covered basketball court construction project is almost complete.
