RAJA Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah attended the closing of a cycling event held in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

Tengku Amir cycled alongside 12 participants from the university’s Puncak Alam campus to its Shah Alam campus, marking the end of the participants’ 2,000km journey to UiTM’s branches in each state in the peninsula.

The cycling team carried capsules containing items emblematic of the aspirations and hopes of each university campus, reported Bernama.

The capsules will be buried in a monument to be revealed during UiTM’s Gala Night on Aug 24.

The sole female cyclist involved in the event, Norlizan Wahid, who is also a senior UiTM lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering in Penang, said she was proud to be selected to join the mission.

Norlizan described the journey as mentally and physically challenging.

“I often participate in cycling activities but the farthest I’ve cycled was around 350km.

“Thankfully, we managed to complete the journey safely.”

UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib said UiTM would continuously focus its efforts on the success and employability of graduates to ensure the institution remained relevant and resilient in the future.

He said the employability rate of its graduates has now reached 89.4%.
