Young fencers face off in open tournament

The competition saw participants aged between six and 16 competing in all three fencing disciplines of foil, sabre and epee.

THE Federal Territory Amateur Fencing Association (FTAFA) conducted its first fencing tournament in over two years.

The FT YoungStars Fencing Championship 2021 was held on Dec 18 and 19 at The Club@Bukit Utama in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

The competition saw 127 participants aged between six and 16 taking part.

They competed in all three fencing disciplines comprising foil, sabre and epee.

Most of the fencers came from fencing schools in the Klang Valley, but the open tournament also saw participants from other states.

All standard operating procedures were strictly enforced, including Covid-19 tests for participants and officials.

“We would like to thank all our volunteers and sponsors who helped make this tournament happen” said FTAFA president Badroel Rizwan.

“We would also like to thank the Malaysia Fencing Federation for its support.

“FTAFA was very happy to organise this, as our local fencers have not had a chance to compete for quite some time.

“We need our fencers at their best for upcoming international events, including next year’s Asian Cadets Fencing Championship and the SEA Games,” he added.
