Men’s skincare brand from the US, Jack Black, promises multi-functional, fuss-free and result-driven products.
It's got nothing to do with Hollywood comedian actor Jack Black, but the personal care brand, Jack Black, is definitely putting a smile on men’s faces.
Founded in 2000 in Texas, United States, the brand positions itself as a multi-functional, simple to use and result-oriented line. The people behind it are Curran Dandurand, her husband Jeff and Emily Dalton.
Dandurand and Dalton were former Mary Kay senior executives who realised that there was no dedicated men’s skincare range available in the country at the turn of the millennium.
Today, Jack Black products line the shelves of well-known American retailers such as Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Sephora and Bergdorf Goodman, ranking as one of the top prestige men’s brand in the country. Its products have also won various beauty magazine awards in the US.
The brand is also available in 20 other countries outside the US, including Malaysia. International business development manager, Brittany Burianek, was in Kuala Lumpur recently to talk about the brand’s history and introduce a new range of products under the Core Line.
“The name Jack Black came about because ‘Jack’ represents the quintessential, approachable man’s name, and black is the highest order given in many sports like karate,” she said.
“Our products are lightweight, multi-functional and easy to use as we know men like fuss-free products,” added Burianek.
The formulae are gentle and non-greasy, containing ingredients like aloe vera, sage, rosemary, eucalyptus, jojoba and macadamia nut oil. Fragrance- and colourant-free, some of the products also contain the PureScience formula, which incorporates botanicals and certified organic ingredients without paraben-based preservatives or sulfates.
The brand’s latest range of products are the Beard Lube Conditioning Shave, Double-duty Face Moisturiser SPF 20, Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25, Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser and the Industrial Strength Hand Healer. These products are listed among the brand’s top 10 bestsellers.
The award-winning Beard Lube is a non-lather, translucent formula which acts as a 3-in-1 product of pre-shave oil, shave gel and after-shave conditioner.
The formula is infused with special conditioners that help retain skin’s moisture even a few hours after shaving and reduce razor burn. The lightweight lotion also features silicon technology to promote a smooth gliding effect and eliminate razor clogging.
Also suitable for women as a leg shaving cream, the product contains ingredients like macadamia nut oil, jojoba oil, glycerin, peppermint, eucalyptus and menthol.
Used as a moisturiser and sun block, the Double-Duty Face Moisturiser with SPF 20 sunscreen has blue algae extract, a rich source of vitamin E and minerals. This is combined with sea parsley, an anti-irritant containing vitamins A and C, which help nourish skin. An advanced moisturising complex is also said to lock in skin moisture.
Even men need hand creams and the Industrial Strength Hand Healer is one that is rich, yet non-greasy, providing soothing, healing benefits to dry, chapped hands.
Tested by guys who work with their hands like chefs, doctors, golfers and carpenters, the cream can also be used for excessively dry spots on elbows, feet and knees. Ingredients like vitamins A and E, rice bran oil and eucalyptus form part of the formula.
The brand’s star product is the Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25, emollient formulas that protect and relieve dry, chapped lips. Offering broad-spectrum sun protection with SPF 25, it also helps guard against windburn and extreme temperatures.
Doubling as a face wash and toner to dissolve dirt without drying skin is the Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser.
Containing the PureScience formula that includes certified organic sage leaf extract, it is suitable even for sensitive skin. Oat and coconut-derived surfactants gently cleanse the skin and break down pore-clogging residue, while aloe leaf extract helps condition and soften skin.
The Core Line is generally suitable for all skin types. The other three lines in the brand are Performance Remedy, Pro Series and Epic Moisture.
The Epic Moisture range targets both men and women with its face and hair oil, body wash and body cream.
All of the brand’s 45 products (except three, which are produced in Canada) are manufactured in Dallas. Its packaging is inspired by masculine icons like premium liquor and cigar labels.
