Learning while teaching

Celebrated artist David Hockney tried his hand at teaching during the Rolex Mentor and Protege Arts Initiative 2004/05 and came away rejuvenated. VERONICA SHUNMUGAM writes on his mentorship with one very lucky Matthias Weischer. 

ALL the mentors from the Rolex Mentor and Protege Arts Initiative allude to having learnt from the young artists under their wings. This “backwards” learning process, however, seems to have been more pronounced in the case of British painter David Hockney.
